Why is heart considered the organ for love? Why not some other organ?

Why don’t we associate the lungs or kidneys or the gut with love and romance?

Kidneys filter waste, not lovey-dovey feelings. So not kidneys at least. Maybe kidneys can be symbol of toxic relationship!

If I had to guess, I’d say it’s a combination of two things. The first is that a few prominent ancient philosophers (whose philosophy also involved what we call “science” today): Aristotle and Galen notably, but also a few Egyptian philosophers called the heart the seat of ALL emotion based on their observations. This idea stuck around and evolved into the cultural importance of hearts. But, I also suspect it has to do with how we’re actually able to feel the heart. It beats faster when we’re excited, in love, afraid, anxious. You can’t feel your brain thinking, kidneys filtering, or liver detoxing. But you can feel your heart beating.
